Carcassonne

Between the perfect;ly preserved outer and inner ring walls

On May 16, 2016, we drove back from Barcelona where we had visited the Sagrada Família. By popular request, we chose to make the slight detour and visit Carcassonne, a fortified medieval city that features perfectly preserved ring walls. We had been in Carcassonne before, in May of 1992 with our then next-door-neighbors. Hard to believe that almost a quarter century had gone by since our last visit!

We arrived shortly before noon, parked the car at the bottom of the town, and walked up to the fortified city for a first glimpse. A little over half an hour later, we were back at the bottom for a tasty meal at the Restaurant le 37 which had been recommended to us and did not disappoint. After lunch, we split up and explored the fortified city individually. My interest, of course, was to take the pictures for this web page.

We met up by the car again at 4:30 p.m. for the drive back to Cannes. Our GPS rerouted us because of extremely heavy traffic and ti consequently took forever to get home, but that's another story.
