Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks

In October of 2016, we visited a few National Parks in the southwest of the United States. We started our tour in Las Vegas where we arrived on October 8, and after visiting Zion, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Arches, Monument Valley, and the Grand Canyon, we were back in Las Vegas on October 15. The trip yielded a large number of photos, only a few of which are presented in these pages. This is the first of a three-part series; it highlights our visit of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. From here, you may also access part 2 and part 3 of the series.

Zion National Park

We arrived in Springdale around one o'clock in the afternoon. Zion National Park is different from the other canyon parks we visited in that one enters the canyon at the bottom. In all other cases, the access is along the rim. This means that we didn't have as much time there as we would have liked: inside the canyon, the light fades quickly towards the end of the afternoon, and we still had to drive a couple of hours to take us to Cannonville where we had reservations for two nights at the Grand Staircase Inn.

Bryce Canyon National Park

We spent the entire day of October 10 at Bryce Canyon. After exploring the rim for a while, we hiked down a very easy path, Queens Garden trail, that led from Sunrise Point to the bottom of the canyon. The return was slightly more challenging: via Navajo Loop Trail and up a short but incredibly steep part called Wall Street to Sunset Point on the rim. After lunch, we took the car and explored some other points along the rim, such as the Bryce Natural Bridge and scenic Rainbow Point, where the evening light was beautiful. We then drove back to Cannonville for our second night there.
